研究. Molecular Biology of Bacterial Antibiotic Resistance Genes and degradation and toxicity of organic chemicals.

Dr. 生活的 studies molecular mechanisms of antibiotic resistance in bacteria and the biodegradation of xenobiotics such as polychlorinated biphenyls, 硝基甲苯, and the mutagenic properties of their biodegradation products. He has developed gene probes to monitor expression of catabolic genes during in-situ bioremediation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, 汽油, 和多氯联苯.

His laboratory discovered the emergence of infectious multiple antibiotic-resistant bacteria in amphibian feces, 农场的土壤, and urban backyard soil. He has authored over 50 papers and presented his research at national and international symposia and meetings. His research has been supported by the Environmental Protection Agency, 通用汽车(General Motors), and local area hospitals. Several students at the doctoral, 大师, and undergraduate levels have participated in his research and have co-authored publications. In recognition of his contributions to the profession of microbiology, he is an elected Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology.
