Summer Academy

The Summer Academy is the highlight of each PUB Program Year – whether on campus or virtual. For 2020 it features all of the usual core courses plus academic competitions, Performing Arts, Fitness, Music History, and robust social/cultural/career programming. This year’s pandemic situation is really exercising our technology muscles; and we can’t wait to see what happens when technology meets Performing Arts for the virtual summer’s-end performance!

This page makes it easy for PUB Scholars and parents to find out PUB’s summer services and schedule. The Team Directory facilitates contacting team members especially for participating in teacher office hours and Peer Mentor group and individual sessions. With the criteria always at hand, Scholars can track their progress toward qualifying for special recognition at the virtual awards program. And this page is an easy reference for school districts making elective credit and credit recovery decisions as well as for stakeholders seeking to monitor the grant’s performance.

Social, Culture and Career

Project Upward Bound College Prep Academy provides enrichment services focusing on developing the whole Scholar using PUB’s four pillars:  academic, social, cultural, and career.  As a result, PUB creates a summer schedule that includes non-academic programming.  To encourage progress, PUB also recognizes achievement in these personal development areas.

M.Y. Time Mondays (Every Monday at 8:55 a.m.)

M.Y. (Mastering Yourself) Time Mondays will kick off each week of Project Upward Bound’s 2020 Virtual Summer Academy. Within this two-hour seminar, PUB Scholars will receive information they need for the week, become motivated and inspired through social-emotional learning, and they are enriched with character and leadership skill building designed to enhance their self-awareness, perspective- taking, teamwork, conflict resolution and academic success. In the M. Y. Time Mondays Speaker Series, PUB Scholars will hear from local and/or national community leaders in discussions focusing on leadership principles that can help Scholars develop into more effective leaders.

Mentoring

PUB’s Virtual Summer Academy has a Peer Mentor (PM) Team made up of a Lead Peer Mentor plus three additional Peer Mentors working under the guidance of the Project Advisor. The PM Team will model appropriate behaviors for PUB’s high school Scholars that help them to mature and support their postsecondary education goals.  This includes providing guidance, moral and emotional support, general advising, and redirection as needed facilitated through group and individual sessions.  In addition, the PM Team will also help in implementing MY Time Mondays, Career Wednesdays, and Freedom Fridays.
